As part of the VAT relief scheme, you may not need to pay VAT on certain products if they are designed or adapted specifically for personal or domestic use. This also includes the installation, repair, maintenance, spare parts, or accessories for eligible products.

The scheme aims to reduce the cost of essential products and services needed due to a disability.

Who Qualifies for VAT Relief?

For VAT purposes, you are eligible if:

• You have a physical or mental impairment that has a long-term and substantial adverse effect on your ability to carry out everyday activities.

• You have a condition treated as a chronic sickness by the medical profession (e.g., diabetes).

• You are terminally ill.

You do not qualify if:

• You are elderly but otherwise able-bodied.

• Your disability is temporary.

Additionally, you do not need to physically make the purchase yourself. If someone, such as a parent, guardian, spouse, or partner, buys the products or services on your behalf, VAT relief can still apply.

How to Purchase VAT-Free Products

When placing your order, you’ll need to complete a legally binding declaration confirming your eligibility for VAT relief under Group 12 of Schedule 8 of the Value Added Tax Act 1994. This declaration may be provided to HMRC as part of our VAT accounting obligations. Please note that making a false declaration is an offence.

The information you provide is kept strictly confidential and is used solely to apply VAT relief to eligible products and for HMRC compliance purposes.

What is Considered Personal or Domestic Use?

Personal or domestic use means the goods or services are for your own private use and not intended for business purposes.
